The GULFKING was the Flagship of the Gulf Oil Company domestic fleet.  It was probably the most photographed of their vessels.  The photo to the right, was reproduced in large size, about 11x13, and made available to any employee who requested one.  It was taken during a 1957 test run, as was the photo below.  Both are in the Chesapeake Bay.  The photo lower right shows the GULFKING docking at Philadelphia with it's first full load of crude from Ostrica, Louisiana.  The 1,575 mile run with 228,821 barrels of crude, took 3 days, 22 hours, and 35 minutes.  It was considered a success.
