I STARTED WITH GULF IN THE CIVIL ENGINEEERING DEPARTMENT IN HOUSTON ON SEPTEMBER 1, 1944 AND RETIRED FROM GULF ON NOVEMBER 30, 1982 AS MANAGER OF FACILITIES IN THE CORPORATE REAL ESTATE DEPARTMENT. I HAD MANY YEARS OF GOOD MEMORIES WITH GULF AND MADE A HOST OF DEAR FRIENDS.

I worked as a Chemical Engineer at Gulf's Milford Haven refinery for nearly 20 years until it closed in 1977. Some of my best and most interesting years. I've read that the Gulf brand is being resurrected in the north-east US, and there is at least one Gulf-branded station in the UK, near Spalding, Lincs. Let's hope this is the start of a trend.

My father William L. Baker, a roustabout at Spindletop, met my grandfather, Robert B. Melat, a driller, at Spindletop. Daddy eventually became Production Superintendant for Gulf in Grand Bayou, Louisiana (Red River Parish). When my father retired after ~40 years, his district had the longest running safety record in Gulf's history. My great uncle, H.A.(Lon)Melat, developed the first underwater drilling technique for Gulf.

I'm a Ham Radio operator who operates a "Bookworm Net" or radio network discussing various books. We have been going through Daniel Yergin's book, "The Prize". This is a wonderful book, and started my research on Gulf Oil. I would really like to chat with others who are intrigued by this sort of effort and enterprize. The oil business seems to be something I should have taken better note of when I was a kid. I grew up only a few miles away from "Richfield", and I have since then done some instrumentation electronics work for various petrochemical companies.

Started working for Gulf 20 Years ago at the Port Arthur Refinery in the Utilities Department as the "Head Boilerwasher".

My first day at Gulf Oil was Aug. 4, 1969 at 712 Main St., Houston, Texas, as a teletype operator in the Communications Department. I worked for Gulf in 2 Houston Center, Westbelt Center and the Wilcrest Center in Houstonm too. I retired from Chevron in Aug. 1996 in Midland, Texas.

My Grandfather ( Charles A. Torbett) started a Gulf Oil Distributorship in New Tazewell Tenn in the 1920s. The company is still there(although it is BP) and is ran by my uncle C.A. (Bud) Torbett to this day.

Nice and informative web site. From 1951 to 1953 I worked as a grunt in the Material Accounting Department on the 7th floor of the Gulf annex building in Houston, TX. If any of you of this vintage that worked in the Houston office are out there would love to hear from you.

Just found this great site. It was fun looking at all the messages and recognizing a lot of names. I started at Gulf Research in 1964 and worked in Technical Services until 1976 when I became the aviation quality control engineer in the southeastern US. In 1985 I went with Sohio(thenBP)and worked as the Technical Service Mgr until retirement in 1999. Would love to hear from any old friends who may read this.

I worked in Pittsburgh from 1968 to 1985. I have been with Chevron until 2001 and am now working for ChevronTexaco.

My Dad worked for Gulf in Pittsburgh from 1940 to 1960. I worked for Gulf from 1970 until Chevron bought us out in 1986. I understand that Gulf lubricants is going back on the market.

Gulf Oil Chemicals survives today in a few remaining souls at Chevron Phillips Chemical Company. Keep us in your prayers and thoughts.

My father worked for Gulf from 1948, at West Meade Gulf, through Through the BP and finally working for an indie jobber in Franklin. Would like more info about your society. My dad began a Gulf service station here in October, 1961. At first it was only a small store converted from a one-car garage in our basement and a small separate garage with one grease pit. It remained under the Gulf flag until 1973, when Gulf sold their Finnish operations to two Finnish oil companies. I am still running this 40-year old station, now under a different brand, but with a strong awareness of the Gulf tradition. Our cafe still carries the Gulf name. We have had visitors from all over the country coming to see the only remaining Gulf station cafe in Finland. Once Gulf was the third largest oil company in our country, with about 200 gas stations. I have been running this station from 1983, but have practically grown up at the station.

I hope someone can help me! My Grandparents ran a Gulf station for many years while my father was growing up and he has been collecting some of the Gulf memorabilia for quite some time. Hello Gulf Oil Collectors. I have been collecting oil company advertisements for around 20 years but have only in the last 5-year made my most desirable brand Gulf Oil. I am in the process of assembling a 1950’s Gulf Oil Gas Station. It is about 50% complete. I have no schedule for completing the task. I just can across this internet site and thought it would be nice to say hello to all of you and inform you that I am doing my part to keep the history of the Gulf Oil Company alive.

My brother and I just moved back to Odessa and are helping to restore the old Gulf Building on Second Street here in Odessa. It opened 10/30/36. It is in bad repair now but will be a beauty when finished. Our father J. W. Stephenson, worked for Gulf Oil in Wickett, Texas for over thirty years.

Gulf Oil has a lovely history in the Caddo-Pine Island Field, LA. Here they developed the underwater oil resouces of the field below Caddo Lake beginning in 1910. The development was the first isolated overwater drilling in the U.S. There is an oil museum in Oil City, LA, if anyone ever visits the northwest LA region north of Shreveport.

This is a great site. It's also nice to see that Chevron has reintroduced the Gulf name through a line of oils and lubricants in seven Southern states. With Gulf service stations already on the East Coast, maybe the Gulf name will come back nationally.

Great site. Keep up the good work. Attended a Gulf reunion in Middlesboro, Ky. on 10/3/01 hosted by Sam Mars and Charles Cason ( my dad ). It was really great to see some old friends and get to talk to everyone. There are plans for a follow up reunion next year and I hope to be there again.

Hello! While I'm no oil company employee or Gulf retiree, I still owe my childhood doodles--& my later career in "fine" art, commercial graphics, & cartooning--to the Orange Disc, as much as to God Himself. In 1964, before my first birthday, Gulf discs were replaced throughout the USA, let alone N.W. Alabama. I must have wanted one badly...because I both doodled gas stations & country stores, AND cut trademarks out of road maps & ads from magazines, by two years of age (1965-'66). One Disc that I especially wanted was on the way from rural Fayette County to Tuscaloosa (where my grandparents lived), to the side of Smalley's Store on US Hwy. 43. It was dwarfed by the current Disc...it was on a "lollipop" with wrought-iron curlicues...and it was under a shady oak on the Smalley family's front lawn. What could look more elegant to a 1 1/2-year-old? THAT set me to doodling Gulf (& Pure Oil) stations above all other brands! I became interested in trademark design & graphics by age eight (1972), and collected road maps, cloth badges, and pump signs seriously by age twelve (1976)--all just before my entry into Ala. School of Fine Arts--because of that 42- inch disc from 1925-1935. And now...we finally have one! It's my hope that we can do more than just "git t'gether an' reminisce 'bout ol' memories." Perhaps...we can persuade Cumberland Farms to merge with other C-store chains...maybe even with a crude oil/gas producer...and thereby return the Orange Disc to other parts of the USA! Why can't we? Thanks for letting me chime in...!

I have found the Gulf Oil site quite interesting and helpful. I have recently restored and old Gulf Oil oil can display rack. These normally sat in front of the station or in the island for displaying the Gulfpride Oil products for sale. I have also restored a old refuse can with the spring loaded top for placing trash, etc. Now in the process of restoring a '60 model Gulfcrest gasoline pump and also and earlier 50's version, using a Gilbarco pump. Not sure if Gulf ever used Gilbarco or not, but it should make a nice display.

I started to work for Gulf Oil in 1970,just out of the Air Force.I worked as a warehouseman in Jackson Ms.unloading many rail cars of oil and bug sprays and charcoal lighter.In 1974 I took a job as a Gulf transport driver.The fleet Rep.came and rode with me on one of my first deliveries,when we returned to the terminal he was overheard to say,"James will be a good driver if the transmission holds up".It did and I lasted through the merger and drove for B P until I retired in 1995.This is a great site,it feels like visiting with family.

My father owned a Gulf gas station in Toledo,OH It was call Old Orchard Gulf, it was on Central Ave. right next door to Churchill's Supermarket in the Old Orchard area. I started working there helping my dad when I was probably in the fifth grade. Not sure when he opened the station but recently, I saw some family pictures where my three sisters and my mom were handing out things for the Grand Opening. Those sure were the "Good Ol' Days. I have some of my dad's Gulf items and have been to some flee markets and other places to collect more Gulf Stuff. I am not a collector, I just enjoy having these Gulf things because they bring back good memories. Once in awhile you can still find a Gulf Station in Kentuckey,W.Virginia and Virginia One thing I would really like to get is, a "pop gun" it was made out of paper and cardboard. The paper folded up inside of the cardboard gun and when you snapped it,it would pop! I haven't seen one since the station first opened up. This is all for now. Phil Ps. Drop me a line and say Hi.

I got my first station in 1959 and left Gulf when they pulled out of the state. Sold well over 250,000 to 300,000 gallons of gas per month. The last four or five years we concentrated on servicing boats. Made many, many, friends and still keep in touch with some of the kids that worked for me. Ran a drag car with Gulf all over it. Won a lot. Lost a lot, too. Still have some pictures of the station and some of the road projects we were involved with through the city and Gulf Oil. They had the finest products at that time and nothing could beat them. Would be glad to correspond with any one. My computer skills suck when it comes to sending pictures and stuff so you will have to be very patient with me. My station was in Warren, Michigan

My father, Vergil Foster worked for Gulf Oil on the tug Gulf Sprite and he wa stationed at the dock in Philadelphia. My uncle, Thomas Wilson Hutchinson, was a captain for Gulf Oil and my uncle Eugene Ripley, also was a captian for Gulf Oil. They all worked the tugs in Philadelphia. If any one knew them, would appreciate contact with you.

Born in Pittsburgh in 1963, and remember seeing the big GULF signs all over the city, and the research center. Moved to NY in 1970, and had a chance to see some race cars sponsored by GULF at Watkins Glen as a kid. Interested in anyting to do with Pittsburgh History or Gulf Racing!

"Hired on" with "The Gulf" at Port Arthur in 1979. The company was always refered to as "The Gulf." Marine Department, under Capt J.C. Davis and Paul Cleary. Super fine people in a great company. And what a fleet we had. The "animal" class T-2's GULFDEER, GULFLION, GULFSEAL and GULFTIGER, the GULFCREST, GULFOIL (she got more stray mail intended for Pittsburgh, Houston, etc), GULFPRIDE, GULFSOLAR, GULFSPARY, GULFSUPREME, and the royalty class GULFKING, GULFKNIGHT, GULFPRINCE and GULFQUEEN, and the small but mighty tug DELANCO (at the refinery from 1919 until 1983, that's service). With the retirement of the old T-2's and fleet downsizing, I was offered an opportunity to transfer to the lubricants export desk in Houston. The VP or Marine called around and found a slot that I could move into (I believe lubricants said OK about midnight of the deadline of the first downsizing ever in '81 (as I recall!). Went with BP, and often delt with the Charleston Blend Plant, again supper quailty folks. By far the best company I have worked for. Recently retired from

My dad owned a gulf station in memphis from 1957 till his death in 98. i grew up in the bussiness and still have it in operation, {garage only}

My father started out working for Mr. Dickey, a Gulf distributor in Cleburne, Tx, after WWII. He worked for several years driving a truck, then went on to open a pump repair shop. In 1951, he went to work for Gulf Oil as a pump mechanic. He retired from Gulf as terminal supervisor in 1971 from the Ft. Worth terminal. He bought out the Gulf distributor in Cleburne, Tx in 1971, the same business he worked for after the war. He and my mother have been running the business ever since. I have been working with them for about 15 years, and now my grown son and daughter are working with us. My youngest daughter, who is in kindergarten, also comes to "work" after school. Anyone who may remeber my Dad or Mom please e-mail us about the good old days at Gulf. I have heard so many stories and remember many myself. There is a loyalty we all have for Gulf that is hard to explain. It was, and still is, a great way of life.

I am researching our family history. Anyone having any info about my Uncle Richard P. Vinade would be deeply appreciated. He retired from Gulf around 1951 or 1952. He worked in the Industrial Sales Dept, Marine Lubricating Sales Dept. In 1947 he was presented an award by Thomas Reilly Div Supt of Marine Lubricating Sales.That's all the info I have. Thank You

I see many former Gulf employees checking out this website. I know many of you and would like to encourage you to join the GOHS. It`s a great way to keep in touch with friends and former employees from the "good old days" and find out about the history of the "old" Gulf. Although I am still employed by Gulf Oil Limited Partners, here in the Northeast, there is no connection between Gulf Oil LP and the Gulfoil Historical society. This site and the club itself is dedicated to the preservation of the history of Gulf. I am a Charter member of GOHS and highly recommend that each and every one of you join. I joined because I am a collector of Gulf memorabilia but you don`t have to be a collector to join, just someone who has a love for Gulf and it`s history. I work for gulf transportation in san fransisco. We are gas carriers, our main company is olimpyan oil, a minny major on the west coast. The owner liked the name of the old gulf stations and called our transportation division gulf, so when i deliver to station's i'm asked all the time if we are of the old gulf stations..i say with regret no. I would have been proud to have deliverd for the company and i am very fasinated when i go by old unused stations that bear a rezembalance to stations of the past..it makes me feel like i wish i could step back in time!

My Dad, Raymond Estep, and his brother Harold owned/operated staion for 50 yrs. (1936 -1986) at the intersection of U.S. Highway 11-211 in New Market, VA. My Uncle Harold owned the station several yrs before dad came to work with him after his term in the military. If anyone remembers this station, would love to hear from you.

Just found out about this group and website recently at the Spindletop "Centennial" celebration in Beaumont Texas. I began work in 1977 at the Port Arthur Refinery, I am still at Port Arthur working at what was know as Package and Grease, now called Chevron Lubricants & Specialty Products (PADC)-Chevrons largest operation of this type. I am a collector, looking forward to joining up. Very interested in Gulf history and memorabilia. My dad also worked for Gulf at the Port Arthur Refinery...the old main office still stands !

I am a third generation Gulf oil employee. I worked as an offshore instrument technician from 1977 till around 1993 My grandfather Mack Cooper and My father Malcolm Cooper and myself Chuck Cooper all retired with this fine company, I worked out of Venice La. in all thier fields and went to Nigeria Africa with Gulf Oil Co. of Nigeria which was changed to Chevron Nigeria Ltd. or Chevron Overseas Petroleum Co. Inc. "COPI" My grandfather's brother Sedjie F."Ted" Cooper also retired with Gulf / Chevron . I worked at the Milford Haven Refinery (West Wales, United Kingdom) in the refineries Fire Department from 1st January 1968 through the Chevron Merger and am still at the same site although it is now owned by Petroplus Tankstorage Ltd. I have a collection of Gulf memorabilia mainly orientated to the UK and Gulf's sponsorship of Racing Teams. I would like to hear from anybody who worked or visited the Milford Haven Refinery during its time under the Gulf banner. It's nice to see the Orange Disc is still shining brightly across the globe.

Would anyone know of or know how I would get Info on a Gulf Station that use to be in Uniontown IN until the early 70's.? I can remember it although I was about five when it closed.

I am looking for information about my grandfather, Marcus (Mark) Hanna. He was a paleontologist with Gulf from about 1921 to 1960. He and my grandmother, Myrl, had a hobby which was the subject of a Gulf company magazine article. They made butterflies out of rock sections, mounting them on plaques and stands or making them into jewelry, such as pins and bolo ties. The magazine article was most likely in the late 50's early 60's. If you have information about my grandfather, I'd love to hear from you.

I was working in gulf oil gas station in Wooddale ,Illinois 1973 to 1977 but still same station until sold in 1995. My dad was own Station for 30 years. From 1965 to his Death in 1993.I am still never forget about the gulf oil co. I still have my gulf hat,key ring,pen,work shirt, work coat,oil can,antifrize can ,repair sheet. I joined Gulf at Milford Haven in 1977. It always had the reputation of being the best refinery on Milford Haven. When we were hijacked by Chevron no one ever said they worked for Chevron always Gulf!

My grandfather, father and uncle retired from Gulf. My dad retired at the time Chevron bought Gulf, he was employed for 30+ years. He has pictures of rigs he worked on throughout LA and TX. He also has some of the old Gulf books sent out. These books are from the 1950's. He will be so excited to hear about this

This is sort of a sentimental site! My grandfather owned a Gulf Station in Birmingham, AL. At the time of his death in December of 1971, he owned one of the oldest dealerships in the southeast.

i am fixing up the front of my garage with a gulf motif. i have a gulf dealer sign i am touching up. the ppg code numbers i have do not compute with the local auto paint stores. all they have are fleet colors for gm and ford. i guess they used these to paint gulf vehicles. i need the gulf orange and blue paint code using ppg or whatever. thanks for the help in advance.

This is a great site. I am going to join real soon. I am a long time Gulf customer and collector. I was never an employee, but Gulf has a special feeling in heart. My Dad and I done alot of engine work in the early days in addition to our other full time jobs, and we rented a couple bays in an old Gulf station near our home and had a lot of fun. When I came back from the service in 1967, Gulf was my very first credit card that I had ever had. It continued until the merger of Chevron, which I still have and am a Time Honored Member as my years with Gulf continued. I use it every time we travel south which is two or three times a year. I collect everything that is gulf and still want more. Hope to hear from of you. Keep up the good work on the work you do on the society.

Gulf is still running and surviving the fierce competition in Asia. We are still big - evennthough not as big as earlier. I used to work from 1984 to sell-off in 1985 with GULF OIL Corporation Licensee in India. Technical - Reporting to Harmarville -Mr. Robert Sissingh. Anybody Remember?

Went to work for Gulf in March of 1957 as Dealer Developement/Manager of a 24 hour training station at Kentucky & Adams, in Evansville, IN. Worked different marketing assignments in MI, and New England area. i.e. the Providence District. Discharged in July of '83. Just found this site. Looking for as many pictures of gasoline pumps as I can find, with all four views of the pump. Front, rear, rightand left. This will greatly help me with the project that I'm working on. The original size of the pump will be necessary also.

Nice to see the site, even if I don't know any of the names yet. My father began working for Gulf Refining in New Orleans in 1950 and had progressive assignments in the credit department in Jacksonville, FL, Atlanta, GA, and Houston. I began my career with Gulf Exploration and Production in New Orleans in Financial Accounting and moved through various assignments until the merger with Chevron. I'm still with Chevron, having worked in Land, Gas Control, Training Coordination, and Aircraft Operations. I'd be happy to correspond with any of you who knew my father or me over the years.

Browsing through my new computer and checked out the alumni web site. It was indeed a pleasure to see many familiar names. Sounds like a great pastime for me after 15 years of retirement. Looking back I have many pleasant memories of GULF.

The first Welshman to sign the guest book? I worked at the Milford Haven Refinery (West Wales, United Kingdom) in the refineries Fire Department from 1st January 1968 through the Chevron Merger and am still at the same site although it is now owned by Petroplus Tankstorage Ltd. I have a collection of Gulf memorabilia mainly orientated to the UK and Gulf's sponsorship of Racing Teams. I would like to hear from anybody who worked or visited the Milford Haven Refinery during its time under the Gulf banner. It's nice to see the Orange Disc is still shining brightly across the globe.

Started to work for Gulf Oil in 1975 at the Port Arthur Refinery, stayed through the "merger" with Chevron and the subsequent sale of the refinery to Clark Oil. Still with the refinery now called Premcor Refining, same group different name. Good to see a site where we can gather and remember how it used to be.

I hired on with the old Gulf in Feb. of 1974 in the testing Lab in P.A. Texas. Worked there for 7 years and then bid into the Instrument Dept. Moved to Orange in 1992 and retired from Chevron August of 1999. Gulf was the best to work for without a shadow of a doubt. Most of the guys knew me as GUNRUNNER at P.A. Miss those guys. Mt father started with Gulf pumping gas in Dallas TX int the late 30's and worked his way through the company in TX and in 1954 he took over the distributor ship in Grayson co. TX would love to here form some of the others from this ere in TX. He was with Gulf until his death in 1879 and then my brother took over and saw the turn to Chevron

My father worked for Gulf in the Texas Panhandle oil field from 1926 till 1959 when he retired. I also had two uncles who spent their working years with Gulf. When I was in college, the Gulf was kind enough to give summer jobs to sons of Gulf employees. Most of my boyhood days, we lived in Gulf company camps in the Panhandle. I will always have a warm stop in my heart for Gulf. I am in the processing of developing a web site devoted to live in oil company "camps" in generaland with our Gulf camp in Hutchinson county Texas in particular.

I am a 4th generation Gulf Oil Distributor still working out of my original bulk plant built in 1925. I have a nice collection of pre-1964 Gulf items and enjoy furthering the interest of "The Orange Disc". I congratulate all of those working for the GOHS and I appreciate your efforts. My father, Harry J. Huffman was an employee of Gulf Oil for over 30 years. Retired in 1960 at Waynesboro, MS. I saw an article in the paper about your placing the historical marker and was interested to learn more about your organization.

Employee 1964 - 1999, GR&DC 64-78, Gulf Chemicals, Baytown,TX 78-94 (Chevron), Chevron Refining, Pascagoula,MS 94-99.

I have a picture of my grandfather standing in front of the Gulf Oil service station he operated. Picture taken in about 1920. That station was put on logs and pulled with horses several hundred feet and then was used as my grandparents home. The round orange sign was visible thru many coats of paint through the years and the house still stands. When that station was moved a brick one replaced it which was very much like the old wooden one. The brick one was just torn down a year or so ago. I will share photos with a few people, only charge printing and postage.

My father was a Gulf dealer for at least 50 years. I dont have a lot of memrabelia but i do have a lot of memories.this site brings back a lot of those fond memories thank you very much.

I worked for GOE&P International from 1976 to 1981 in the Houston headquarters at 712 Main Street. Great memories. I turned in my Gulf stock certificates on Wall Street on the last day for redemption -at the time of the Chevron takeover. I was sent to a room (I believe it was at Morgan Trust Co.) and the room was approximately 100' x 100'. Stacked and sorted on many table tops were most of the individual stock certificates that had been tendered by all of the shareholders. There was a mountain of stock certificates (many thousands) piled on the tables, all different vintages, designs and dates....I like to claim that i was one of the last employees to see the old corporation gathered together for the last time !!!

I am looking for any and all examples, photos or stories pertaining to the Wichita Truck. I know that Gulf Oil mostly used White Trucks but I remain hopeful that somebody may have seen something from the Wichita Falls Motor Company. The Wichita trucks are very similar to the White Truck in design and may be hiding in old oil field photos. Any information will be included in the now forming Wichita Truck Museum. The guestbook is a great idea! I am a member of the G.O.H.S. My grandfather,father and I collectively wore the Orange Disc on our shirts for 94 years. I would like to hear from anyone who has photos or other items related to Gulf's truck fleet. I would buy them or pay to have copies made. I am especially interested in Gulf trucks from the '30's,'40's and '50's.

I operate as VP Marketing Gulf Oil International, which owns the Gulf Trademark worldwide outside of the USA. I am currently in the process of producing a 100th year publication to mark this great co's history. I would very much appreciate any input of what should be included particularly great stories and anectdotes. There aren't too many companies out there with the rich tradition and heritage that we possess and as you would appreciate we only get one chance to do this right. I grew up in Boston, Mass. in the 1960's and 1970's when Gulf stations were everywhere. I know Gulf is now a fraction of its original size, but it is still nice to know that the name is still alive along the East Coast. This is a great site.

My Grandfather, Charles Prinz, worked for Stoll Oil Company in Lexington, Kentucky and later for Gulf Oil in Louisville, KY. Unfortunately he died when my mother was only 6 years old. I was hoping to locate images, articles, anything that might mention my Granddad. I continue to surf in hopes of locating information, but no luck so far. I would appreciate any suggestions. I started with Gulf in 1970 at Hooven, Ohio (just 2 letters from Heaven) Terminal. My wife Barbra work at the Cincinnati Refinery located beside next door. The Terminal and the Refinery are long gone. Istill work for Chevron in Louisville, Ky. and Barb is a teacher. Glad to see this site.

I am a model builder. Lately I have taken to modeling old style gas pumps from scratch. They have been fairly generic but I am now trying to get them more technicaly correct. Also I was delighted to find that I was the one thousandth visito to this sight. Do I get some kind of door prize for that? Just kidding! This is a marvelous sight, thanks for making it available.

Could I be the first international employee to sign up! I started at Gulf Oil Co. Eastern Hemisphere in its London office at 2, Portman Street back in 1978 after leaving school. As you can see by my email address I survived the merger and am still with that other oil co. Gulf hold many happy memories for me and for me were the best working years of my life... so far! Like others here I have a small collection of Gulf memoribillia, mostly UK focussed. My working life with Gulf was great fun... something that seems to have left the workplace nowadays! Wish I had found this site sooner - thanks to Art Gray for letting me know about it. I spent 7 very good year at Gitco and GTT from 1978 to 1984. Many of the friendships I made there continue to this day. It was a great place to work!!!

Really great to see this site. I started with Gulf in New Jersey in 1977 and still receive a paycheck with the name Gulf on it. It's not the same, but I work for Gulf Oil Limited Partnership out of Chelsea, Ma. Like I said, it might not be the same, but at least the name is carried on. This is a great site and I thank all the wonderful people who put it together. My wife had our first child when I was an employee of Gulf (GORAM Gulf Oil Marketing), we bought our first house and moved to Long Island through Gulf. Sometimes I think my veins are flowing with blue and orange!

What a GREAT idea and will come back to this site. I recently started collecting Gulf items and love it. My Grandfather (Lucius C. Dixon) started with Gulf Oil in Port Arthur, Texas in 1912 and worked there until his death in 1946. My Father (Arthur C. Dixon) worked there for 40 years and retired in 1973. I started in Port Arthur in 1968 and then transfered to the new Allinace Refinery (south of New Orleans) in 1971 for the start-up. I am still at Alliance, but it is currently owned by BP. So, you can see Gulf Oil runs deep in my family and there is no doubt Gulf Oil was the BEST company to ever work for. If anyone knew my Dad or knows me, please get in touch.

Hello, I started in the steno pool in June 1967 - I 1st worked with Betty Lotter in the City Line Office. Then up to Retail Credit with Bob Siewell, George Flick, Harry Giesiecke, Bill Watson, Bob Best, Gerry Spause, George McCall, Bud Avery. I moved on the Data Processing and worked with May Carr. Then moved out to the Bryn Mawr office with Bob Olmstead, Bob Barger, Dave Woods, Ed Lynch, Jack Watt. That office closed and moved down to Baltimore with Gayle Simmons, then Bob Bradley and then Larry Walker. Chevron took us over and closed the Baltimore office and I finally HAD to leave after 25 years. Take care everyone - this is great.
